The following is a list of the top ten smuggler movies, all differing in tone and style. Whilst some movies show smuggling to be seedy and bleak, others present it as a high-flying and glamorous affair with unlimited money, cars and houses. But is that all there is to it?
Mr. Nice is about the life of famed Welsh drug smuggler Howard Marks. The title and story are taken from the autobiography of Howard Marks that was published in 1997 - a book he wrote when he was released from prison. The film shows Marks (played by Rhy Ifans) becoming one of the biggest cannabis smugglers the world had seen from the 1960s to 1980s. The film begins with his humble early life in the Welsh valleys and follows him to his later connections to Germany, the IRA and MI6. Often light-hearted in tone, Mr. Nice is an enjoyable story with a likeable protagonist.

American Made is a 2017 American action comedy film[4][5][6] directed by Doug Liman, written by Gary Spinelli, and starring Tom Cruise, Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, Alejandro Edda, Mauricio Mejía, Caleb Landry Jones, and Jesse Plemons.[7] It is inspired[8] by the life of Barry Seal, a former TWA pilot who flew missions for the CIA, and became a drug smuggler for the Medellín Cartel in the 1980s.[9] In order to avoid jail time, Seal became an informant for the DEA.[9]
I was looking for little hidden pieces of history. Small stories that affected larger global events and I came across the Mena story. And I always wanted to do a gangster film. Goodfellas is one of my favorite movies and I was always on the hunt to try to find my version of that. And once I started researching CIA's involvement in Mena, the same name kept popping up, was this Barry Seal character. As soon as I found Barry, I knew I had a movie.[12]
His third wife Deborah, whom Lucy was loosely based on, stated that Seal started his drug smuggling business in 1975, not 1980 like the film suggests, and that it was centered around marijuana before it involved cocaine. Seal's DEA record also noted that he expanded to smuggling cocaine in 1978 and claimed that he was smuggling marijuana as early as 1976. Additionally, Seal's ties to the Medellín Cartel did not begin after being kidnapped while refueling his plane in Colombia, but when he met a smuggler who flew for cartel operative Jorge Ochoa during a flight home from Honduras where he served nine months in a local jail after being caught smuggling drugs in 1979.[31]
The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Danny Archer, a diamond smuggler looking for a big score to make him the money he needs to leave Africa for good. When he meets Solomon Vandy, an African diamond miner played by Djimon Hounsou, his conscience is tested against his greed as he tries to help Vandy in retrieving the diamond and smuggling it out of Africa.
In recent years, some of these defectors, who now live in South Korea, have sought to undermine the grip of the Kim regime on North Korean citizens. They transfer media, including American movies and TV shows, to USB drives and smuggle them to North Korea, where they are passed around to citizens who have no access to the internet or any information outside the country.
The movie involves the smuggling of a vast quantity of counterfeit $100 bills from Panama City to New Orleans. Although Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg), the would-be smuggler, prefers not to deal with drugs, wouldn't you know several kilos of cocaine get mixed in with the deal.
An experienced smuggler, Chris has retired from crime to settle down in married bliss; alas, his wife, Kate (Kate Beckinsale), has a brother who has made a mess of a cocaine delivery, and lives are in danger unless the veteran Chris steps in and performs a make-good job. Chris has entrusted an old pal named Sebastian (Ben Foster) to protect Kate and the children while he's on the job. She may require protection, because a snaky crime lord named Tim Briggs (Giovanni Ribisi) is the boss of this deal. Let it be said that in this role Ribisi uses the kind of voice that makes you want to smack him, just for talking like that.
"Most guys coming out of jail, it's a tough road," he says. "'Previous employment?' 'Convict.' That doesn't get you a lot of work. So you don't usually tell people, but I never had that choice. Everybody in the world knew I was an escaped convict drug smuggler. But it paid off in a lot of ways."

Hopper plays Seal as a man who gets high living on the cutting edge of catastrophe -- first as a smuggler, then as a government informant who courted death to get photographs and evidence against his former bosses. Seal refused offers to join the federal witness protection program.
Cocaine underpins a range of movies, from the gangster flicks that we all know and love through surreal comedies to counter culture classics that fly two fingers up at the establishment in search of hedonistic freedom. 2ff7e9595c
