We have an electric fence around our property to keep our two pet goats from wandering. There was a big storm a few years ago while we were out of town and it took the fence down in several dozen places. A good-natured neighbor came over and attempted to repair the fence by putting a loop in the end of the aluminum fence wire and then passing the other end of the broken wire through the loop and twisting it back on itself (making two interlocked loops). While these were reasonably strong, the only contact between the two ends of the broken wire was a single point where the two wires intersected. It created lots of radio interference as the wires oxidized. I had to re-do every one of the splices, converting them to Western Union splices.
